    How do you replace a tumble dryer belt?

    I bought a new belt, and am trying to repair my tumble dryer (a Creda 37751).

    As fas as I can tell, the belt has to go around the drum, the motor and then the two pulleys. It seems too tight, though, and the drum won't turn.

    Any suggestions? How do you replace a tumble dryer belt?did u get the correct size belt for your dryer? u have to get the belt around the drum so lift the top lid of the dryer....stick something stiff and flat in the front of the dryer lid...there are 2 clips about 4 inches from each end....just push on the clips and lift the lid.....next u have to get the drum loose from the front door....look for the screws to do this....remove the drum from the door gasket just far enough to get the belt around it...then around the pulleys and motor

    How long is the white belt period in Jiu Jitsu and other martial arts?

    I'm not impatient, just to clarify. But I thought it was unusual, probably even good that it takes so long at my club to get your first belt. Basics are particularly important in JJJ.

    I've been training nearly a year and I've still got my white, nobody has mentioned a grading or anything. Some other guys had been at the club a year before I joined, and they're still white belts too.

    So how long does it take at other clubs and in other disciplines to get your first belt? I kinda laugh cos my friend who started hapkido at the same time that i start JJJ is already like blue belt...How long is the white belt period in Jiu Jitsu and other martial arts?In our Ju Jutsu class, there is no time frame by which a student should be testing for their first color belt. We have to be able to present the required waza with confidence and demonstrate three to four henke of each aspect of Ju Jutsu... and WE are the ones who have to request to be pre-tested. Our instructor tells us that when we feel ready, we ask. If he tells us when we are ready, how will we ever be able to evaluate ourselves? It took me six months to progress from white to orange, and I've been an orange for almost a year now.

    In our Hap Ki Do class, we have testings only four times a year. Our Hap Ki Do instructor presents a list of takedowns, kicks, breakfalls, and knowledge that a student must be able to present with confidence in order to qualify to test. If a student is not ready in, say, July, then there is always the October testing. And again, some people advance more rapidly than others. It also took me six months to go from white to orange in Hap Ki Do.

    In Judo, once again we have to meet a set number of requirements and present those requirements confidently in order to advance. I started Judo in 1997, and ten years later (with time off to have three children) I am STILL a white belt. Both my judo sensei and my Ju Jutsu shihan tell me I have some of the best, most fluid throws they have ever seen, almost Dan level. But... I am awful at the matwork, the grappling aspect, and without that I cannot advance from white belt, nor would I want a concession because I've been at it this long. I haven't earned it.

    In traditional Tae Kwon Do, there are 10 color ranks starting at white belt. Unfortunately, there are %26quot;McDojangs%26quot; or belt factories where students test every three months, regardless of whether they are ready to progress or not. These kind of schools give reputable TKD academies a bad name. In true TKD, one does not advance in rank until they have met the requirements for rank and can demonstrate them with confidence and without being prompted by an instructor. Schools that hand out rank every three months are only in it for one thing: profit. We have a school like that here, and whenever one of their high ranks transfers to us, they are invariably actually a white belt because they cannot even meet the most basic of our white belt requirements.

    So, for TKD as well, there is not set time frame for testing. Our students need to know certain Korean terms and dojang commands, proper stances, proper seated positions, six hand strikes, six blocks, four kicks, one form, five one steps, five choke escapes, one pressure point, and, if they are children, have to complete one responsibility assignment (chores for a month at home) and have a letter of recommendation from their schoolteacher in order to test from white belt to white with yellow belt. It is completely individual. Some students may take three months and be ready. We spoke with one student this evening who is now in his 14th month of training and is still a white belt.

    What it comes down to in any art (excluding the belt factories) is that you get out of your art what you put into it. If you go to one class per week, don't bother to practice while you're away, and then return to class the following week without having so much as practiced a stance, you are going to stay a white belt for a long time. If you come to two or more classes per week, practice for at least a half hour per day at home, and visualize your techniques when you cannot physically do them, you will advance far more quickly.

    Don't forget also that each martial art tends to have its own belt rank system. At our TKD school, we follow the guidelines set by the Kukkiwon, TKD world headquarters: only white, yellow, green, blue, red, and black belt. My Hap Ki Do instructor's belt system goes from white to orange low, orange high, green, blue, green low, green high, blue, brown low, brown high, black. In Ju Jutsu, our ranks for from white to yellow to orange to green low to green high to brown low to brown intermediate to brown high to black. A color in your school may be a completely different rank elsewhere. How long is the white belt period in Jiu Jitsu and other martial arts?TKD students can earn a rank advancement every 3 months or so if they work hard enough. 12 rank advancements to black belt, so 3-4 years.

    (12 = 10 colored belts, plus bo-dan %26quot;deputy black belt%26quot;, plus the 1st dan black belt itself)

    P.S.: in reference to Ana's answer below, I respect the fact that Ana has high standards at her studio, and her knowledge of a wide range of martial arts is certainly far superior than mine. I know nothing about Jiu Jitsu, so I cannot give any advice in that discipline.

    Nevertheless, I stand by my assertion that, in tae kwon do, a dedicated student can earn a belt rank in 3 months. Of course, it must be earned (not bought, or given to an undeserving student). The student must be able to demonstrate the belt level curriculum with skill and confidence. How quickly each student accomplishes that is largely up to the individual student. In my admittedly limited experience, 3 months is an attainable goal for a dedicated student.

    However, it is also the responsibility of the instructors to teach, and to encourage the students to progress. I feel that, if a student is studying nothing but tae kwon do, it would be an exceptional case in which a student has not advanced from white belt to high white after 14 months of regular study. How long is the white belt period in Jiu Jitsu and other martial arts?If it's a good school, you'll be ranked at a rate that's best for you (regardless of art) . Some schools will do all their rankings once a month or every three months, and if you miss that day, you're stuck. At my school it's done on an individual basis. In my aiki class, it took me a year- but I learned a lot in that year, and Japanese arts (excluding karate) tend to take a longer time than others before the first ranking. Some schools won't mention when your grading is, like mine- when you're there long enough, you figure out a pattern for how a teacher grades people and after that you kinda just know. I was lucky to see my friend test, who started a year before me, so I knew when I'd test and what was expected of me. After that, I actually caught up to him and now we're the same rank. I suspect the same is happening to you. Watch the group just ahead of you and you'll see what I mean. Cheer up and know that you will get ranked. :)How long is the white belt period in Jiu Jitsu and other martial arts?I don't know about JuJitsu, but in my karate, you can be a whitebelt forever. It's not about time at all, but about accomplishing the curriculum set before you. For Instance, my white belts need to either learn Naihanchi or Sanchin Kata (I give them the choice) as well as have the 8-precepts memorized and be able to perform the basics. (waza/ Charts) Once these are accomplished, be it a week, a month or a year or longer, my students reach yellow belt. Each dojo though is different. How long is the white belt period in Jiu Jitsu and other martial arts?Any quality gym will make you wait and make sure you know what you're doing before promoting you.

    When I took Hapkido, they were promoting people every couple of months and a lot of people who didn't deserve to move up did.

    How do you change the serpintine belt on a 1998 oldsmobile cutlass ?

    My belt broke the other day, and I need to replace it. I've never replaced one myself, and I don't want to spend the extra money to go to a mechanic to get it done. A diagram would be helpful too. Also, when it broke, power steering fluid spewed out, and left me without the use of power steering. Is this normal when a belt breaks while the engine is running ?How do you change the serpintine belt on a 1998 oldsmobile cutlass ?Under your hood there should be a diagram showing how the belt is routed around all of the pulleys. There will also be an arrow telling which way you'll need to twist the tensioner to remove and install the belt, it is a fairly simple process.

    Loosen Tensioner

    Remove belt

    install new belt

    Tighten tensioner

    Be sure not to drive the car without the belt because you won't have power steering or the pump circulating water to cool the engine (resulting in overheating). The power steering fluid being spewed out is abnormal, you'll need to refill this because some cars use the pressurized steering fluid to assist the brake system. Your local auto parts store should also be more than happy to print out the diagram for how to install the belt.

    retreat the spring of the belt tensioner by holding the center bolt of the belt tensioner pulley and make pressure against the spring of the belt tensioner

    that pulley is the last to hook to the belt

    1996 Dodge Ram 4x4 v8. I've replaced the belt once already. Brand new belt and it's squealing again after a week. How often does it happen to skip a belt in Shotokan Karate?

    I've been doing karate for about 6 months now and when i took my 8 Kyu (yellow belt) test, my Sense said that i would be moving to 7 Kyu (orange belt). How often does this happen? What can/ should i do to prepare myself for my 6 Kyu (green belt) test in June? How often does it happen to skip a belt in Shotokan Karate? It happens sometimes but usually only at the lower belts. Someone will have some skills and previous experience in another similar martial art and the ability to learn things faster. Also once in a while you get a person that is just a super athlete who is driven and has the time to practice and learns quickly. While this is less common it does happen especially if they have learned a good portion of the requirements for that next belt. You almost never see this beyond the intermediate belts though. How often does it happen to skip a belt in Shotokan Karate?I took Shotokan karate for years in IL. I can tell you moving up a belt happens once in a while for sure. If you also had a stripe system like I did, you have to look at it as how well they think you did in terms of the stripes. When I did my best I went up 3 stripes, other times I went up two, but I only once went from Yellow to Orange. (I went White/Yellow/Orange/Green/Blue/Purple/Br?Black) If you do everything near perfect, you will skip a belt depending on who watches and grades your tests and who you are testing with or with at the same time. As for what you can do, work on keeping a low stance and stay appropriately level when you move, be crisp and firm without pausing at the end of your strikes and moves, don't forget get breathing spirit, and keep it tight and balanced during basics and kata. How often does it happen to skip a belt in Shotokan Karate? That happens from time to time. Especially if you have previous training in another style or have ever taken karate before. Their theory is that you will be able to catch up quickly.

    How do I pick a new seat belt for a 97 corolla?

    I need to replace the driver seat belt on my 1997 corolla. Are seat belts generic parts that fit on most cars, or does each car have its own type?

    In other words, do I have to buy some kind of specific corolla seat belt made by Toyota, or can I get one anywhere? How do I pick a new seat belt for a 97 corolla?THIS POST HAS SINCE BEEN EDITED FOR CONTENT!

    It should be AGAINST THE LAW to sell a used seat belt at a junkyard, as it would be unknown whether defective seat belts caused the vehicle to wind up in the junk yard in the first place. If there are laws that corporations must follow for braking safety, seat belts should be no exception to the rule.

    Previously, as a counterman, I was told by numerous sources that belts from junk yards are illegal to re-use. Now, in studying my advice like I should have done to start, I read that to repair a seat belt is illegal.

    See: http://www.cartalk.com/content/columns/A

    With no clear visible proof of the law, I must relent to the advice I gave as false.

    In any case, you should either purchase another from aftermarket sources or go straight to the source and avoid the junk yard for seat belt straps for that main reason.

    What do the stripes on the belts mean in taekwondo and how do I tie the belt?

    My son has just begun taekwondo and I notice other kids have stripes wrapped around the ends of their belts that they get from something called %26quot;stripe testing%26quot;. Is this common? Another question I have is: how do I tie the knot on his belt? It always looks goofy the way I do it compared to how the instructors have theirs tied. What do the stripes on the belts mean in taekwondo and how do I tie the belt?stripes if it's only one represents a half belt, like a ranking between belts. If it's a lot of stripes, they are for achievements. Like show me a front kick good and get a stripe. Many instructors us it as a sort of reward for kids to keep encouraged.

    Adults usually get one stripe and it's considered a half belt promotion.

    it's difficult to explain how to tie a belt. But let me try :)

    From behind (to show your kid how to tie it),

    Hold a short portion with your right hand, and direct the belt to the left. Wrap all the way around the body twice and you should have a short end directed to the left. Take that short end going to the left and wrap in under the double layer of belts (to circle or wrap the belt together in the front) Wrap it from the bottom (with your right hand you should be curling towards the body with your fingers)

    so now you should have two ends and the belt should be wrapped together tightly in the front.

    Now take the half in your right hand and do a little flip to flip it over. Take the half in your left hand and put it ontop of the one you just flipped and loop it under. (so if your right hand is palm down, your left hand would be palm down on top of y our right hand, curl your left fingers and that would be the direction that the belt would need to go) pull it through, then pull it out straight to the left and right and tighten.

    Hope this helps :) in the end, the knot should look like a fortune cookieWhat do the stripes on the belts mean in taekwondo and how do I tie the belt?that guy is a complete idiot, the stripes on the black belt are levels above black belt, there not for %26quot; a good front kick%26quot; dumb ***!

    What do the stripes on the belts mean in taekwondo and how do I tie the belt?sujith_005@yahoo.com tie itWhat do the stripes on the belts mean in taekwondo and how do I tie the belt?the stripe means they are close to promoting to the next belt rank. What do the stripes on the belts mean in taekwondo and how do I tie the belt?Acctually a very good question. First with the stripes. Usually a stripe signifies a level change in the student's achievments, if a Do-jung practices stripes and stripe tests, usually you need to achieve 3 to 4 stripes before you can be promoted to the next belt level or color. Every do-jung is different in this practice. As for the second question about how to tie the belt. There is two common practices inTae-Kwon-Do, one which is usually taught to the begginers to make it easier to tie, however it does appear much more sloppy as compared to the more %26quot;advanced%26quot; way.

    The Beginner's Way: Find the middle of the belt and place that middle point right below your belly button, wrap both sides around the back, let cross over eacother in the back, letting both ends of the beltcome back around and no cross over eachother in the front. Take one side of the belt and tuck it behind the first wrapping from underneath, pulling tight the belt, and then tie a half knot in front.

    More %26quot;advanced%26quot; method: find about the 1/4 mark of the belt and place it right below the belly button. Wrap the 3/4 part of the belt around the body twice. This should form a nicer looking wrap, then follow through with the rest of the knot method from the beginners knot. I would try this method a few times until you got it right before sending my son in to class. What do the stripes on the belts mean in taekwondo and how do I tie the belt?its mean that they are in the middle level, some school use that stripe, some don'ts.

    example: before from yellow to green, they will get yellow with green stripe first, then they promote in green, and so on until black belt.

    I have to give you some food for thought on your child's belt. I know as a mother you want to help your child as much as possible. If you begin to tie his belt for him you will NOT be helping, you will actually be hurting him. My reasoning is this; if you tie it for him it delays his learning process. The belt is a sacred thing in my system; it represents your identity in the school. The art of handling the belt includes the method of tying it. It is a meaningful process.

    The school should be teaching him how to tie it just as they should be teaching him other aspects of the martial arts.

    Furthermore, if someone has not volunteered to help your child then part of the process is that your son must be humble enough to ask someone for help. This is another part of the art.

    It will teach your son the following concepts, humility, respect, independence and this will, all lead to self-confidence.

    However, if the school is not teaching these sorts of things you may want to question the caliber of his training.

    I am not saying you shouldn't help him, I am just saying that doing it for him is not helping him. It is enabling him more than anything. After all, what happens on that fateful day when he gets in a fight? You will not be there to block a punch for him; he will be by himself with only his training to rely on. If his training is below par he will be in trouble. I mean no disrespect mostly I am concerned about young people's well being and people paying too much for unaffective training.

    On a side note, I see many younger students at other school gleefully running around in there martial art belts. I see them at the mall, on the streets, leaving the school like this.

    We can not do this at our school. The only time your belt is worn outside the school is when you are instructed to do so by Sensei.

    The belt (and rank) is a sacred thing. They are not to be thrown around as if they are common things. What do the stripes on the belts mean in taekwondo and how do I tie the belt?when I was in taekwondo a few years back

    the stripes meant certain levels of character achievemants like

    red= respect

    blue= control

    black= confidence

    etc...

    On my red recommended belt I recieved a gold stripe on the end of it which meant in one month I could test for black belt.

    I cant really describe the tying part but Ill try:

    fold the belt in half, open it up, keeping it centered, put it on the center of your sons center, like his bellybutton, then wrap the left side around all the way to the right and right side all the way to left. Now you should have two belt parts in front. Now put your right side over left and bring through and tie. then put left over right and get your knot! What do the stripes on the belts mean in taekwondo and how do I tie the belt? The stripes mean different things depending on the style of TKD.

    In each style the stripes represent the level or rank.

    WTF style: (belt levels: white, yellow, blue, red, black. There are other colours for the junior levels) Each belt has 3 stripe levels. eg. Yellow 1, Y2, Y3, Blue 1, B2, B3, Red 1, R2, R3, Cho Dan Bo (Red-Black tip), then Black and the Dan levels.

    ITF style: belt levels: White, White with Yellow stripe, Yellow, Yellow with Green stripe, Green with Blue stripe, Blue, Blue with Red stripe, Red, Red with Black stripe, Black, then Dan Levels.

    These stripes are generally a bit of electrical tape on the belt.

    My club also has club stripes that go on the other end of our belt to represent our knowledge of steps, sparring, equipment use, patterns, as well as confidence, self esteme, and a few other things that the juniors get.

    As for tying the belt, it depends if it is a single or a double belt. Single belts are simple, a reef knot is the way to tie it: left over right, right over left.

    Double belts are very similar, the centre of the belt sits at the front, then wraps areound the back and back to the front. Once at the front again, cross over the ends over, tuck the top piece under the flat part of the belt then bring it to the top and tie it again. Basically a reef knot again but it tucks under the front part of the belt (the middle)

    Hope this helps, and hope your son enjoys taekwondo. It is a great sport and great for confidence.

    My 93 chevy cavalier needs the drive belt replaced. My dad tried to replace it but the belt he bought was a factory belt and it's like an inch short, he went and bought a different belt which is a dealer belt and that is now to big. Anyone know how to get the belt on there? How do you replace the drive belt on a 93 chevy cavalier?there is a belt tensioner in the front of the engine that looks like a flat round silver pulley. How do I stop the squeaking of a belt on my car?

    I have a car that we changed the water pump and alternator/air conditioning belt on. Now when I crank it it goes thump thump thump like its going to stop running at first. If I give it gas it sounds fine except the belt starts squeaking. After a few seconds it acts fine. It only does this when its first cranked and if its been itting for more than about 10 minutes since it was last cranked. When the water pump was changed it was very hard to get to. We had to take off the air filter, timing belt, Airconditoner belt. Im really sure the timing is right cause it drives really good. I was just wondering what could be causing this and how to fix it. Also how do I get the belt to quit squeaking? One easy way to find out is to go to auto parts store and get a can of spray %26quot;Belt Dressing%26quot; about a 3.00 item

    With your motor running spray alll the belts you can see.

    Wear some protective eye wear when you do this.

    If it is just the belt (being new) the squeaking should stop.

    If that is not the problem, you may have your belts too tight and some adjustment is needed. Lets hope the spray works out for you. With new belts, they will stretch and not pull and the sqeaking is due to slipage. New belts need to be retightened after two weeks and sometimes done two or three times before they settle in. If your car has an automatic tensionor (spring loaded) the spring may have lost its power, or broke, or the belt could be too long. The squeaking right at start-up is the altenator requiring the extra *unph* to put back into the battery what you took out on startup.

    Is the thump, thump, thump at startup the engine turning over that hard? Did you double check your timing marks before and after your work? Have the timing checked.

    You need to undo the large center nut and pull off the pulley. The pulley is on a spline, so be careful how you release the pulley. You might need to expand the pulley a little by heating it with a blow lamp, then the pulley will slide of the splines easier. Don't forget to use leather gloves, as your hands can get hurt pulling off the pulley, eh. Slide the new belt on and replace the pulley.

    How do you replace the belt that drives only the power steering fluid pump on a 2000 chrysler cirrus?

There is no belt tensioner so I do not know how to get the belt over the pulleys. How do you replace the belt that drives only the power steering fluid pump on a 2000 chrysler cirrus? What engine do you have. If it is the 2.4l the pump is in the front if its the V6 its in the back. The belt tension is applied by moving the PS pump on its mount. On a V6 vehicle you will have to raise it up to get under the passenger side of the engine to access the mount bolts to adjust it. On the 2.4L it is right there on the top.

    How does a seat-belt help in reducing the impact of injury due to accidents?

    I mean, a person is stuck to his/her place then how does that person move? Don't you think it may actually be more dangerous if one wears a seat belt while driving? Because one can move easily to comfort zones if not wearing a seat belt.

    I know all the car safety experts recommend wearing a seat-belt, so obviously my logic is wrong. But what is the scientific reason in wearing a seat-belt?How does a seat-belt help in reducing the impact of injury due to accidents?Your %26quot;comfort zone%26quot; description may be misleading you about the safety of, simply, %26quot;feeling comfortable.%26quot;

    Comfort is a realtive thing, but the extreme pain of a seriouos injury is anything BUT comfortable.

    The fact that seatbelts are designed to keep the rider firmly against the bottom and back of the seat means that if someone needs more comfort, then the seat should be adjusted to accomodate. If a driver were allowed to %26quot;move,%26quot; easily to a comfor zone, then he would move more during an impact. And THAT can spell disaster.

    The point of newer car design is that the CAR takes and absorbs more of the impact. The driver should absorb less. In a collision, there are THREE separate impacts. 1. When the car hits an object. 2. When the car stops, the passengers tend to keep going. (momentum) The second impact is when the passenger hits the interior of the stopped car. 3. When the body stops after hitting the inside of the car, the internal organs want to keep moving. (momentum, again) When the body stops, the organs hit rib cages and other, more squishy things.

    By keeping the body firmly strapped in place, seat belts minimize step #2, above. The car can, then take up much of the impact by crumpling, and deploying airbags, which minimize step #3.

    Replacing...

    Using the appropriate tool, ratchet and socket, box wrench or male hex or square drive, turn the serpentine drive belt tensioner loose to release the tension while you remove the serpentine drive belt. What is the difference between a fan belt and a drive belt? How can I replace it?Why is your question for a Honda in the Toyota catagory?

    On this car, you need to have the Timing belt changed every 100,000km or else it may break and wreck the engine.

    The Fan Belt aka Drive Belt aka Serpentine belt can be changed easily. First, find a new belt at an auto parts store... Canadian Tire or Auto Parts Source or UAP etc...

    Next, with pleanty of light and perhaps a mirror on a stick examine the belt path of your engine. Draw it so you won't make a mistake, there is usually a drawing in the engine compartment, but it might not be correct, verify it first.

    Next, find the belt tensioner, it's a pully usually just a plain flat wheel that rides the flat part of the belt (not the ribbed side). It will have a bolt in the centre of the pully, typically you turn this bolt clock wise (tightening) to cause the pully to swing on it's spring arm to release the tension on the belt. Find a good ratchet or S-Wrench (if you are tight on space) to turn that bolt. Pull the bolt, don't force if it doesn't move. If you have to pull more than say lifting a 2 year old kid then STOP and get help from someone that knows your Honda engine. Otherwise, while releasing the full tension of the belt, remove the old belt from any of the top pulleys (easy to reach). Release the wrench slowly, don't get hurt. Remove the belt completely. Replace with new one around all the same pulleys. Leave the top pulley for last. Once everything looks in place, pull the wrench again to do the last (top) pulley.

    It would be great to have another set of hands (%26amp; eyes) helping you.

    Good Luck!

    How much kata is in Kenpo (or Kempo) compared with Shotokan?

    Do kempo artists do katas even in higher belts?

    How much time will be needed for it to effective in street self defense when trained regularly (2x a week)

    ThanksHow much kata is in Kenpo (or Kempo) compared with Shotokan?Every Kempo or Kenpo style I know of does Kata. Each is different so I can't say how many they do. Some Kenpo/Kempo styles do Kata that looks much like Kung-Fu forms. It has a Chinese origin. Other styles have Kata that looks more like the Japanese or Okinawan karate forms.

    You can't predict how long anyone cane be effective at any art. It takes as long as it takes. Just like in school, some people learn faster than others. Unfortunately, learning the martial means learning and perfecting it.

    ...How much kata is in Kenpo (or Kempo) compared with Shotokan?%26quot;How much kata is in Kenpo (or Kempo) compared with Shotokan?

    Generally there are fewer kata in Kenpo (Parker lineage), about seven or so empty-hand kata. Shotokan has at least 25, often more; Kyokushin has over a dozen.

    %26quot;Do kempo artists do katas even in higher belts?%26quot;

    A martial artist who practices unarmed forms continues to study their forms, always. While I'm unsure if any new kata are added (I believe weapons kata are added, but that might be school-specific), when kata is used as a learning tool, it's constantly being reviewed.

    %26quot;How much time will be needed for it to effective in street self defense when trained regularly (2x a week)%26quot;

    As long as it takes. There's no formula for this. It depends on how the system is trained, how good the teacher is, how good the student is, what nature of attack they're facing, what mindset they're in, what mindset their attacker is in, etc. The good news is, the punch or block you learn in your first class will usually work as advertised under the right circumstances. The bad news is, you can't pick how you're going to be attacked. How much kata is in Kenpo (or Kempo) compared with Shotokan?there is a number of kenpo styles. each one has a different set.

    there is also chinese kempo, okinawn kempo, japanese kempor, korean kempo, american kempo. and then the styles of those various groups.

    shotokan, has more kata then most styles. ranging any where from 18 to 30+ depending upon the dojo

    kata is your styles all your techniques (grappling, strkes, traps etc), tactics, timing breathing, etc come from kata. it is the core of your style.

    effectiveness depends on how you train and how good your instructor, styles dont make a person good or bad. but proper training and have a good instruct is what makes the difference

    the time frame depends on you and your instructor.

    think of it this way how long does it take to learn to drive a car.. some people pick it up faster then other and others never do learn.

    there is not one answer for this question

    most people can learn a basic level of self defense in 6mths to a yr some longer.
