How long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?

There seems to be a lot of people who call themselves black belts just because they bought one! I'm 8 months into Karate training and my sensei says it takes a minimum of 3 years to reach black belt training 2 or 3 times a week at least. That seems ok to me but i'd like to hear opinions from experts. I suppose its not just about a length of time but ability, i just want to know what the average time would be.How long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?Mate, you're always learning. No true student needs grading because the importance is in what he knows, not who knows what he knows. How long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?it will take a few years cause i do karate and it will probably that about 6 years

How long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?i havn't seen any experts answer yet?far from it in fact.depends on your definition of black belt?also the style and the effort you want to put in.in my opinion there should be no time frame it should go on the amount of effort you put in,your ability, your dicsipline and a few other things as well as the person as a whole.i dont believe a black belt is someone who can simply pass a set of requirements, pay there money do a grading and there a black belt. How long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?As students pass through the ranks taking grading examinations they are awarded with different colored belts (= Kyu). However the Kyu or number/rank always starts at 10 and ends at 1. Black belts ranks then increase normally, from 1st Dan to 10th Dan. The grading system in Karate has been introduced for a variety of reasons and it is a sign of having achieved a particular skill level, that gives the student an indication on how they are progressing. The grading procedure typically involves a training session where experienced Karateka (typically black belts from 1st Dan onwards) examine the performance of the students, including basic techniques, Kata, and sparring. There are 12 Kata requirement in belt examinations (Please take a look at the web). As you can see from the web 6 to get to the black belt. I agree with you when you say that it isn't just a question of time, the ability and dedication of the student are very important factors. Saying this, if your sensei says that the average is 3 years, and that's the average, it hard to talk about particular cases. But theirs an other thing here, they can say they have a black belt but in stage what?! Tricking ha! It's easy to catch a liar on this thing! How long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?Hi there

There's lots of factors that can effect how long it takes to get a black belt.

    1. Your ability and how long you train.

    2. Your club and organisation that it belongs. These days its hard to attract adults to train and most clubs only seem to be interested in teaching children. This really isn't what martial arts is all about and the results can be quite damaging!

    3. Train at an established dojo. There are some very well run private dojos around but beware! Some are run at the expense of the student! It took me 10 years to get my 1st Dan in wado due to a money making owner!

    4. The syllabus. Karate has a lot of forms and you will need to know all the pinan Kata's plus the advanced ones for the higher kyu grades. You will also need knowledge of ippons, kihons, oyhos and tanto dori plus the basic kihon waza.

To be a solid Karate black belt with good ability to instruct afterwards i would say at least 7 years training twice a week.

There are easier ways but you would only be cheating yourself and good instructors and students will always be able to tell how just how good you really are!

    Regards

idaiHow long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?I'm not even going to give my usual speach about belts, why, no one seems to care. I'd say about 3 years. In about 3 years, with most %26quot;karate%26quot; you can expect to have a nice black belt around your waist. If that is your goal you can expect about 3 years. (that's one less person I have to worry about on the street). How long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?I have been in karate for 3.5 years and it took me 3 to get my black belt, but I think it should take longer for someone to be truely molded. How long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?ive done karate for about 6 years and itll take me about another 2 or 3 years if not more to get my black-belt (im a green belt). i started in 5th grade and im now a sophmore in high school, soon to be a junior....How long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?a grading every 6 months i don't do karate but i guess 10 grading = 5 years

but it will also depend on the age you start training because you cannot be a proper black belt at age 9 or 10 for exampleHow long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt? The colour of the belt is not as important as you think it is.

If you have the time and money to trained full time. 24/7. Maybe 1 year or so. That is with a very good master/coach or someone who only want your money. Being a black belt does not mean you can beat a green belt, nor does it mean you have the best round house kick. Ranking are good for business and army training but I don't feel it is the best area to aim when in training. Once a black belt also does not mean you are a good black belt. Take your time, Karate is for yourself not for showing to other the colour of your belt. How long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?As long as I concern the Black Belt in any of martial arts is not JUST about technique, it is about MIND. I can say more: it is about mind in the first place. I went through Tae Kwon Do and from Red Belt you have to write an essay with lots of thoughts. It stay secret between you and your exterminator but no way you can pass it with Internet. Some people got right mind fast enough and everything just felt right. Bit few... don't want to remeber them: no matter how many hours they done it always something missing. I had my training 8 times per week with 2 hours minimum time. it was greatHow long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?first i must say that black belt is a traditional thing not a real step in fighting.it indicates that you arnt a beginner but it can mean a little more or very very more.

if you are a common person with medium trying something between 2 or 3 years time needs for it

in my style, first grade of %26quot;b.b.%26quot; means that you can exercise your kong fo alone . when you can learn strange forms you are between 2Th and 4Th grade.when you can fight in your style you are 5Th and when can use weapon (cold wpn.) you are 6Th and when can learn new style by yourself you are 8Th and 9Th.

when you can fight in all styles, i mean when you can resist without hope, when you don't mind to victory ,or in other word : when you are not you, you are 10Th grade. How long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?I would agree 3 years would be the absolute minimum even if with a very high ability. It's not just ability that carries you through - you obtain an increasing level of understanding that can only come with time. Think of karate as a lifetime process of improvement. Although the black belt for most is the goal - that's probably around the point that you really start to understand. It's a bit like driving - you can learn what to do but you only really learn to drive once you have passed your test. Although once you have learnt a technique you think you know it - your knowledge of it becomes deeper and probably a couple of years into your training you will start to realise just how much you don't know. Good Luck with your training. Keep an open mind - Get facinated not frustrated. How long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?well i am only a red belt and i heared that you can get in 2 years if you relly work for itHow long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?Probably about 10 years (minimum!)

Once you get a black belt you know the basics.

After you have a black belt you can actually start to LEARN the martial art rather than just how to do the moves.

It's sort of like learning a language...

Once you have a black belt you know the grammar and vocabulary. Next you work on your creative writing and poetry skills.

(I use this analogy because I'm a technical writer.)

.How long does it take to become a proper Karate black belt?It really depends on the person. It takes however long it takes. I know that's probably not the answer you were looking for but for 1 person it could take 2 years and for another 10. It all depends on you. How dense is the asteroid belt?

In sci-fi movies, spaceships flying through asteroid belts are shown dodging between huge floating boulders. Is our asteroid belt really like that? Or, if you were on one of the asteroids would you even be able to see the other asteroids? If you could see other asteroids, would you see them as big rocks, or would they be so far away you would only see little star-like lights?

I've never heard of anyone from NASA saying anything about space-probes going to the outer planets being in danger when flying through the asteroid belt. So, I figured that the sci-fi scenes were probably over-dramatizations.

Also, I've read that the asteroid, (now supposedly a dwarf-planet), Ceres contains like 30-40% of the asteroid belt's mass. Since the asteroid belt covers such a huge area, it seemed like, if so much of the mass was concentrated in Ceres, the rest of the asteroid belt must be pretty sparsely populated. How dense is the asteroid belt?Four spacecraft, the last two Pioneers and the two Voyagers, were sent through the asteroid belt to study Jupiter and other planets, without any attempt to examine asteroids. ONE of these passed about 1200 miles from a small object (about two meters across). The asteroid belt is vast stretches of empty space. Most asteroids would never be within view of another. However, about 20% of asteroids have moons, and obviously in these cases you would have another asteroid in view. How dense is the asteroid belt?Always trusty wikipedia has a great article on the asteroid belt. Hope it helps.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asteroid_beHow dense is the asteroid belt?It all depends on your speed and if u are going against the flow or with it. I think I have Sean some info on flying a space craft through Saturn's belt. How dense is the asteroid belt? All the %26quot;local%26quot; asteroid groups are just huge but not very dense. Much less dense than the Saturn rings and even those are only dense from a photographic long distance shot. You would not be able to photograph the asteroid belts. How dense is the asteroid belt? You are correct, sir. Ceres does comprise a significant quantity of the mass of the asteroid belt, around 25% to 30%.

Since they reside in the Main Belt at a distance of between 2 and 4 AU's, the asteriods in the belt have to spread themselves out over an area of roughly 377 billion square miles of space. They are really spread out.How dense is the asteroid belt? The asteroid belt has not had an original thought for millenia. Or am I being dense?

The asteroid belt is not anywhere near as dense as depicted in science fiction movies. If it were, it would reflect light in much the same way as Saturn's rings, with the result being we'd see a bright band in the nighttime sky, one that would obscure our view of the outer planets.

What are signs of school that is a belt factory?

Hey, I was just wondering how to tell the difference b/w a serious school and a belt factory school. I'm looking for a serious school in the Athens, GA area (not Athens TKD Center) and I would like to know the difference. What are signs of school that is a belt factory?one of the easyest ways is to talk to the students already taking class there. and ask them if anyone ever failed when they were belt testing with them. if they say no its mcdojo. if they say yes then the school has some merrit to itWhat are signs of school that is a belt factory?Believe me you will know when you walk in the door. One way is if the main instructor has a bunch of acne faced teenagers teaching the class. What are signs of school that is a belt factory?I have over 26 years of martial arts training and I have earned the rank of Third Dan (Third Degree Black Belt) I started back in the 70's which was probably way before your time so unless you have some martial arts background explaining what to look for in the aspect would be hard for you to recognize so the best advise I can give you is to call The Attorney General of Consumer Affairs and The Better Business bureau to get some feedback on a business also word of mouth goes a long way. You might also want to see if this is the one and only martial arts school of it's name or they have a franchise of them, highest rank there is he/she being taught and who is their sensei (instructor), do they have black belt classes, tournaments, seminars, how long has this school been around, is this a made up school by someone picking up a book or branching off from another to make their own name.......Hope this helps some. What are signs of school that is a belt factory? If you are guaranteed a black belt in a certain time frame. If you are good you can get one in 3 to 5 years. It takes most legitimate black belts around 5 years. Be careful though, a school that claims to take ten or fifteen years to get a black belt is probably just stringing you along for the money. What are signs of school that is a belt factory? One more time

Instead of focusing on sparring, the class is mostly divided into practicing kata/forms, one-steps, board breaks, etc..

The school or instructor promotes the idea that his school and/or style is the ultimate best in the world, or that cross training in another form of martial arts is 100% unnecessary.

If the school or instructor forbids entering tournaments, or if tournaments are restricted to specific styles or associations.

If the idea of take-downs or wrestling is never addressed, or if %26quot;anti-grappling%26quot; techniques are taught.

If the test for belt advancement consists mostly or entirely of memorization and making your form %26amp; one-steps look pretty

If board breaking has a heavy emphasis, or is taught to be an indicating to how well you would fight, or is used as a supplement to full contact fighting. [What is wrong with this?]

If the school has too many belts, or made up belts (such as camouflage belts)

If the school insists on long contracts and or uses collection agencies for late or missed payments.

    If there are expensive clubs that you must join in order to learn or participate in various clinics or seminars, such as the %26quot;black belt club%26quot;, or %26quot;masters club%26quot;

    If the school owns an actual franchise, such as %26quot;Karate for Kids%26quot; or %26quot;Tiny Tigers%26quot;

If the school uses a pitch book to get you to join or to convince you to sign your kids up

If the self-defense techniques that are taught aren't at full speed or contact, or if the school is insistent only on one way of doing it

If the equipment (gear/uniforms/weapons) costs too much and/or is only ordered through the organization

If testing and monthly fees are excessive, for any reason

If the instructor is a master, 6th or 7th degree under 40 8th or 9th degree under 55.

If the instructor's credentials seem sketchy or are non-existent.

If the instructor proclaims to be a master of many arts, and is also extremely young.

If the school advertises that the grandmaster of the style regularly teaches there

If the school has many students, such as over 100, or if there are many black belts

If once reaching black belt students are encouraged to go start their own school or consider teaching

If ground-fighting is offered, it's exclusive to club members (which usually have a high fee) and/or not allowed until a high rank

The instructor rarely works out with the students and has his assistants do most or all of the teaching

If they teach weapons like the sai and nunchaku as a form of self-defense

If they are a Chinese martial art and use karate belts

If they glorify or try to imitate the Samurai or ninja.

What are signs of school that is a belt factory? The thing to keep in mind is that TKD schools have an entirely different philosophy on belts than most karate schools do.

For example, in Kenpo Karate, I was a a white belt for 13 months and it would take a minimum of 5 years to get a black belt, probably longer.

In Tae Kwon Do, you would probably go through 4 belts in a year, testing every 3 months or so, depending on how often you train. They higher you get, the longer you have to wait between testings.

The reason for this is the goal setting methodology. The belts provide tangible short term goals and keep the student interested and focused on learning new things.

    Comparison:

1 year Kenpo student - still a white belt, maybe orange, knows 2 forms and 56 self defense/punching defense techniques.

1 year TKD student - green or blue belt, knows 4 or 5 forms, and 20 escapes, and 10 %26quot;one steps%26quot; (punching defense).

Another thing to keep in mind is that in karate, the brown belt is the last rank before black belt, and takes a long time to get.

In TKD, the brown belt is only about the 1/2 way point to black. So you tell a karate student that you got your brown belt in 1.5 years and they think %26quot;Oh you must go to a belt factory/McDojo!%26quot;, not understanding that you still have 5 belts to go before black.

I also think that there are fewer %26quot;McDojo's%26quot; than people think. We live in a capitalist society and competition is no longer friendly. Just look at the political campaign ads and the focus on %26quot;negative ads%26quot;. The place down the street has to try to distinguish itself and many resort to negative methods when competing. It's human nature, and it's difficult not to get sucked into that.

There are good teachers and bad teachers in all martial arts.

Many of the best schools and best teachers have aspects of %26quot;McDojo%26quot;. From Tae Kwon Do, to karate, to the %26quot;Gracie Academies%26quot;, all of these contain %26quot;symptoms%26quot; of McDojo.

My own school has some aspects that some would think are McDojo, but I know my Master is legit because of his credentials.

Some people think that if a school is interested in money, then it must be a McDojo. I argue that by saying that if this is my master's only source of income, and he works about 70 hours or more per week, then I think it's fair that he makes a decent living. I have no problem with a school making profit.

Contracts are typical for schools that are interested in money, but a contract doesnt mean that the instruction is poor. It is also a way to verify as sincere desire to train and a commitment to learning for a said time period.

I would focus on your school/instructors credentials, how long they have been in business, the flexibility of their class schedule, and their standing in the community.

For example, my school has been in business for over 20 years, my master has been on the cover of TKD Times magazine in 1996 and published a book %26quot;Competitive TKD%26quot; in 2006 that you can buy at B%26amp;N or Borders anywhere in the country. He is a former Olympic coach. We also had foreign Olympians train with us this summer in preparation for Beijing. I have video of myself sparring against a Beijing Bronze Medalist (Chika Chukumerije of Nigeria). My Master has also holds an annual tournament for charity and does other charity work. He is also a former FBI Academy instructor and has thank you's from multiple law enforcement agencies. We also have local police and prison guards that train with us.

While it doesnt take those types of credentials to make a good teacher, it shows you that your not getting taken by a fraudulent black belt.

Do I agree with everything my master does? Of course not. He has kids I think he lets grade faster than they should. We have advanced students who are not as skilled as they should be. But I must be humble in my perception of what he does. I know that when I went to him, I already had 20 years of experience, and I know now that I he has made me better, so what more can I ask for?

    James

What are signs of school that is a belt factory? If they have TONS of black belts that is one clue. (but that could also go the other way and say that they are a good school) Ask how long it takes to get to black belt. If they say any less than 2 to 3 years then that is also another clue. Try to get a feel for the atmosphere of the place. Does it seem like everyone cares seriously about the art, or does it seem like they are doing everything without thinking about the technique. You might want to just watch a class. You will get a good feel of what it will be like and if the people there really care about what they are doing. I know my school is a very good quality school. It is owned and operated by a family. It is a small school (one dojo, a small waiting room, and a tiny office) but everyone one there treats each other like family. The black belts don't act like a club, but more like role models and teachers to the younger ranks. All the instructors take it upon themselves to care for the students and to really help them. We are all very serious about the art, but we take care not to make it too intimidating. My academy does service projects every month that help out in the community. We are more than just a school, we're a part of the community. I have been with this school for over 2 years and I can guarantee that this is what a quality martial arts school should be.

This is the same info that repair shops use. They have great wiring schematics/diagrams.

Also, for about $15 for a one-month subscription, you can get the factory manual, downloadable (careful! Mine was about 500 pages!) or viewable, at http://eAutoRepair.com.

Then under the seat there's a black male/female plug. Next to it is an identical grey male/female plug that only has a wire loop pugged into it and doesn't go anywhere. Switch the black and grey plugs and turn the key on. The light goes through a diagnostic and blinks fast a number of times then starts blinking slow. Let it blink slow for at least 30 seconds or more. After it's blinked slow for 30 seconds, turn the key off, plug them back like they were and it should be reset. Replug the sensor plug on top of the belt housing and you should be good to go.

How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt?

My 2005 Civic ran hot during 98 degree weather- yesterday- one time- with a/c running. When I took it in this morning, they could not find a problem but recommended I replace the timing belt and water pump (car has 101,000 miles). Does this sound logical? How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt?Page 149 of the owner's manual says to replace the timing belt at 110,000 miles.

Page 160 says the timing belt should be replaced at the intervals shown in the maintenance schedule [on page 149]. But replace the belt at 60,000 miles (100,000 km) if you regularly drive your vehicle in one or more of these conditions:

In very high temperatures (over 110掳F, 43掳C).

In very low temperatures (under 20掳F, 29掳C).

It cost me $300 to have the belt replaced on my 96 Accord at an independent mechanic who specializes with Hondas. Most dealers in my area want anywhere from $650 to $800 to do it.

It won't have any effect on the car running hot so I would suggest replacing the thermostat and inspect all the hoses and flush the cooling system. How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt?it does sound logical. you should change the timing belt every 70-80000 miles. your water pump is probably on its way out.How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt? You're overdue. It will run apprx $800 - $1,000

Shop around. How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt?$800-1,000? Sure if you go to the Honda stealership to do it. A mechanic should be able to do it for less than $600. When I had my CR-V's timing belt changed, it was $525. So for less than $600, you should still be getting the timing belt, waterpump, seals changed. Also, since they are doing that, they also change your other belts at the same time. By the way, your Civic's timing belt should be changed every 110,000 miles according to Honda so you shouldn't even have to change it just yet.

The overheating could be a bad thermostat. Are your fans working as they should? Do you have a coolant leak? Check your coolant level. There are many things that would cause overheating. If it is your waterpump, then do the entire timing belt service. If not, don't bother with it and save your money unless you want it done now. That's my 2 cents worth. How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt?for the shop about $800

    yourself about $100

If you do do it yourself be suree to use a manual(you cann get one from the dealership), and consult someone who has done it before. How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt?yes, about 800-900 at the dealer. call all dealers for discount, they usually have like 10% off for timing belt job.How much should it cost to replace 2005 Honda Civic water pump and timing belt?Don't listen to everyone who is saying do it yourself. If you cant diagnose those problems yourself you arent ready to replace your timing belt. if you dont have your timing right can will blow your engine within 30 seconds and have to replace the whole thing. You shouldn't need a new belt but if you have a mechanic that is a friend of yours have them take a look at it. Alot of shops try to rip people of and sell them things they dont need, dont fall into their traps.

    Hope this helps!

How much will it cost to fix?How much money to fix a timing belt?According to Gates.com, both engines available in the 2000 VW Passat are interference engines. Repair could be very expensive depending on the amount of damage done, but can be expected to range from about $1000 to the cost of engine replacement. In a 9 year old car, that means the car itself has almost no market value. Consider also the poor maintenance that led to the failure and the car screams for some unsuspecting sucker to buy it.How much money to fix a timing belt?It cost me about $525 to fix it with parts and labor and everything included on a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse..not sure if it would be about the same price for you or not but probably somewhere close to that. How much money to fix a timing belt?About $600- have them change the water pump too if it is easier to do now vs. later when it breaks...usually when you do the belt you pump has to come out anyway. How much money to fix a timing belt?this depends on were your at really does but here the belt is from 15.00usd to 31.00usd and labor is usally 15.00usd to 25.00usd to a total of aprox $40 to $53 complete this is for belt and laborHow much money to fix a timing belt?uh 99 dodge neon was about 500 to fixHow much money to fix a timing belt?depends on the car and location of the belt. i had a firebird (easy to access) that cost $50 to fix, the belt cost $30. i have a bmw and it costs about $150-200 to fix. im guessing on the high side of that. How much money to fix a timing belt?call around and get some estimates. How much money to fix a timing belt?Bout 400 bucks for an auto shop to do it. iF its a serpentine belt, (one belt driving all componennts), it is 400. How to put 3 child car seats in a car with only 2 seat belt anchors?

My 2002 Corolla only has seat belt anchors for 2 passengers. I have a 2 year old and twins on the way. How to cary them all without buying a new car? It is against the law to carry one in front. How to put 3 child car seats in a car with only 2 seat belt anchors? Are there really only 2 belts in the back of a Corolla?

If a new car isn't an option, one would have to ride up front if the backseat only seats two. You can't install two seats with one belt.

You absolutely CANNOT use a rear-facing seat in front of an airbag. There is no safe way to do that unless you have your airbag disabled.

You could put your 2 year old up front, but he/she would HAVE to be in a harnessed seat. If you do have a passenger side airbag, you would need to scoot the front seat back as far back as possible, as he/she can be injured by a deploying airbag.

EDIT: And this is NOT against the law. It's not ideal (as the back seat is the safest place for passengers 12 %26amp; under), but can be done if all back seating positions are occupied by other child restraints. How to put 3 child car seats in a car with only 2 seat belt anchors?Legally you can't. You need a vehicle that seats 3 in the back. One seatbelt... one person. Or in your case... one seatbelt... one properly secured carseat. And the cops will notice, don't kid yourself. Had one follow my aunt right to her driveway and give her a ticket a few years back. How to put 3 child car seats in a car with only 2 seat belt anchors? There is no safe way to do that. You could disable the air bag. If there is no airbag a child can ride in the front. Still, the back seat is safer. We had to sell our car and buy a used one that could accomodate our family of five. We bought a '98 Mitsubishi Montero. That was in '06. We haven't had any problems with it. It has third row seats which is nice! It's a little more stylish than a mini van :-)How to put 3 child car seats in a car with only 2 seat belt anchors? Not much choice, I'm afraid. Get another car, or don't carry your kids in the car. Besides being illegal, you put your babies at risk by not having them all in properly mounted carseats. How to put 3 child car seats in a car with only 2 seat belt anchors?Yeah well love dont do it..It is a bloody stupid idea,it's illegal to have a kid under the age of 8 years of age in the front..get another car, you'd kill ya self if anything happened to ya babies..

Use your common sence you know it wrong...How to put 3 child car seats in a car with only 2 seat belt anchors?Plain and simple, you cannot do this........How to put 3 child car seats in a car with only 2 seat belt anchors?A 2002 Corolla DOES have 3 seatbelts in the back. I assume you're saying it only has 2 sets of LATCH anchors in the back? That's correct. You can only use LATCH in the outboard (side) positions in most vehicles, so there's only 2 sets. But you CAN safely use the seatbelts to install 3 seats across the backseat.

LATCH is not safer than seatbelts, it was invented to make it more convenienient, though in many situations it has failed on that count b/c of variances between vehicle manufacturers.

Anyway, use the seatbelts to install 3 car seats across the back. It can be done - but it completely depends upon the age and size of your children. In 3 across its almost always easiest if you keep them in 5 point harnesses if possible. Its easier to put a child in a seat and buckle the belts of the seat rather than having to dig in between tightly packed in seats to find the buckles every time!

What seat does the 2 year old already have? You may have to consider replacing it to get 3 seats across to work. If you're set on having infant carrier seats for the twins (its not a required stage in car seats) check out Chicco Keyfit22 or Keyfit30, both among the narrower infant seats. Consider a Sunshine Kids Radian65 for the 2 year old - harnesses rear facing to 33lbs, forward facing to 65lbs, 18%26quot; top slots, keeps the average sized kid harnessed to 6-7 years old. Its the absolute narrowest car seat you can buy. It can be a pain to install though, so try before you buy or purchase from Walmart.com so you can return it in store without any fees if there's a problem installing it. Check out http://www.car-seat.org for install tips on the Radian.

Generally its best to puzzle seats - so, have the twins rear facing seats one on each side and the 2 year old's forward facing seat in the middle. Depending upon the 2 year old's size, a Britax Marathon could be a good option, especially since you'll be able to pass it down to one of the twins (remembering that car seats expire 6 years after date of manufacture) when she outgrows it. The Marathon fits most kids to 5 years. A Graco Nautilus is another option, though not especially narrow. Cosco Sceneras make GREAT convertible seats for newborns, and buying them means not having to run out and get another seat when they're 5-7 months old like you will if you purchase infant carriers. $45, lightweight, fairly easy to install, not extremely wide. Just realize the average child will outgrow it at 2-3 years old and need another harnessed seat before they're ready for a booster. But for $45, its a steal. I'm not a big infant carrier fan - check my other answers for why, but having twins is unique, so you may decide you just can't live without them. In that case - steer clear of Evenflo carriers! Try Graco SnugRide or Chicco Keyfit and see if you can get the 3 across to fit. You can also post this question at the forum I mentioned, car-seat.org, and have techs chime in on what they think will work!

And its generally not illegal to carry a child of any age in the front seat - but its not safe, either. Especially b/c in an '02 there's an airbag.

    When shopping Remember these rules:

1)the BEST seat is the one that fits your child, fits your car, and will be used correctly 100% of the time. (This is why convenience features DO make a difference and ARE worth the money! If its easy to use, you're more likely to use it correctly.

2)children need to stay rear facing as long as possible.

Turning kids forward at 20lbs/1year is an outdated practice that could cost you your child's life!

A)A forward-facing child under 2 years old is 5 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a crash than a rear-facing child of the same age.

B)A child's vertabrae do not fully fuse until 3-6 years old, before then, she is at great risk for internal decapitation. The spinal column can stretch up to 2 inches in a crash BUT the spinal cord can only stretch up to 1/4 inch before it snaps and baby is gone.

C)Current research suggests that children under the age of two years are 75 percent less likely to die or be seriously injured when they are riding rear facing.

D)In a recent article from Injury Prevention, it was found that the odds of severe injury to forward facing children age 12-23 months old was 5.32 times higher than a rear facing child. (Car Safety Seats For Children: Rear Facing For Best Protection; Injury Prevention 2007; 13:398-402.)

3)Once you do turn them forward facing, they need to stay in a 5 point harness as long as possible. 4 years/40lbs is the minimum for riding in a booster, and most 4 year olds have no business using one yet. If they can't sit upright for an entire trip, they need the harness of a car seat still. And, even if they do sit properly, a 5 point harness is safer, so you want to keep them in one as long as possible. This is important to consider b/c most car seats only forward face to 40lbs. My son just turned 3, and is in the 95th% for height and weight - 40%26quot; tall and weighs 41lbs. He outgrew the 40lbs seats shortly after his 2nd birthday. It was a total waste of money. He now has a Britax Marathon, which goes to 65lbs, and will be able to fit it for some time yet. If I'd have bought it when he was born, I could have had one car seat this whole time instead of the 3 I wasted money on. They are more expensive for many reasons, this is one.How to put 3 child car seats in a car with only 2 seat belt anchors?Rope. How to put 3 child car seats in a car with only 2 seat belt anchors? You are a frikin idiot of course it is illeagle you need to get another car

How do I change the alternator belt in an 87 Suburban?

The old one snapped while driving. Will I need a belt tensioner? It shouldn't be too hard, but I can't figure out what I need to loosen to get the new one on. Will I need to remove the fan belt to get the alternator belt on? Any advice would be really helpful. How do I change the alternator belt in an 87 Suburban?I get a kick out of these kids who think that every vehicle ever made has one single Serpentine belt. They probably couldn't adjust a set of points if they were stranded in the Yukon and their life depended on it.

You will need to remove any belts that are mounted in front of the Alternator belt. As far as the Alternator, those are easy. There are 2 bolts holding it in, one short one, and one long one, The long one is the one the Alternator pivots on. The short one keeps it from pivoting by locking it in place, although both should be tightened when you are done. Just loosen both, and push the Alternator towards the engine.

You probably have at least a Power Steering belt in front, and usually if you have Air Conditioning, that will be in the back on yours, if I remember correctly. Either of those are usually a little more complicated, as they have more than 2 bolts you have to loosen. The Power Steering has one on the back (a nut actually) that a lot of people don't notice.

    Here are some pictures that might help;

    http://www.autozone.com/images/cds/gif/m

    http://www.autozone.com/images/cds/gif/m

Notice that the Power Steering has 3 bolts right in front of the pump, but those hold the pump to the bracket, so leave those alone. You want to loosen the 2 nuts/bolts towards the engine side, that hold the bracket to the engine, and the one in back, and move the pump and front bracket at the same time. The back bracket doesn't move like the front one does.

To get the belt off all the way, you will have to get it over the fan, which is easiest if you start on one side of the fan, and work your way towards the other side of the fan, one blade at a time. Put the new belts back over the fan the same way, except in reverse.

Once you get all the belts in place and on the pulleys, you need to move the device back away from the engine to tighten the belt. Be careful with the Power Steering especially, when using a pry bar, as the outside is the fluid reservoir. That bends easily, and can cause a leak if you do bend it.

Once you get the belt tight enough, tighten one of the lockdown bolts, which are mounted over a slot. Then tighten the rest, including the pivot bolts. Start the engine up, making sure that no one else is standing by the front of the car, and make sure they're still on and tight after you shut the engine off.How do I change the alternator belt in an 87 Suburban? You don't need to loosen anything. There should be a drawing of the belt route on the fan shrout. It should have picture of where the belt go. All you need is 3/4%26quot; socket and a long breaker bar.

    1. You route all the belt to all the parts it is suppose to, power steering, a/c, alternator, main pulley, smog pump and of course the tensioner is last.

    2. You stick the socket on the tensioner bolt and pull onto it while placing the belt over the tensioner.

Once the belt is on the tensioner, you are done! Making sure the belt go onto the other part properly. You can then start the engine. How do I change the alternator belt in an 87 Suburban?you only need a new belt tensioner if the old one has no tension on it or it vibrates too much when the engine is running, you will need either a 3/8 or 1/2 breaker bar, the tensioner arm will have a square hole to place the bar socket into, use the bar as a lever to slide the new belt in.

http://www.autozone.com/addVehicleId,259How do you replace a serpentine belt on a Toyota Rav4?Let's assume the belt is replaced correctly. The belt should be tight enough because the tightness is controlled by the tensioner. • How do you replace the power steering belt on a Honda Accord 1996 lx?

i was driving and the belt slipped off. i cant get it back on and was wondering if i have to unscrew some bolts or something because it isn't spring loaded. How do you replace the power steering belt on a Honda Accord 1996 lx?Correct, it's not spring loaded. You have to adjust the power steering pump bracket by hand and get the proper amount of tension in the belt. The proper way of doing this is by using a tension gage and meeting the requirements in the helms manual. I think most people just get it tight enough to not squeal and move on.

Is it better to change the serpentine belt on a 97 Nissan Sentra or have someone else do it?

I had my oil changed (usually do it myself) and the guys pointed out my serpentine belt is severely frayed. Yikes! Wondering how hard it is for an inexperienced tinkerer to change it themselves. Is it better to change the serpentine belt on a 97 Nissan Sentra or have someone else do it?You need to take your business elsewhere for your oil changes. The Sentradoesn't have a Serpentine belt. Look down there and count the number of belts on your engine.

A Serpentine belt is one belt that runs all your accesories like your power steering pump, A/C compressor and alternator.

You most likely have two or three belts on your engine.

As far as changing a belt on a FWD vehicle, if you have never done anything like it, I suggest having someone you know that can do it, do it for you.

Also, if a belt on the front of your engine breaks, it will not damage your engine, nor will it bend valves. It'll just make a bad sound, and your steering, A/C or alternator will be affected. Only the timing belt/chain, which ever the case, will cause internal damage to the engine. Is it better to change the serpentine belt on a 97 Nissan Sentra or have someone else do it?difficult, and you may damage the engine if you get it on wrong.

And you may damage the engine if it breaks while driving, so don't wait. If the engine is a %26quot;interference type%26quot;, it will have bent valves. Is it better to change the serpentine belt on a 97 Nissan Sentra or have someone else do it?it might damage your engineIs it better to change the serpentine belt on a 97 Nissan Sentra or have someone else do it?it's got two belts and they are pretty easy to change... this car has a timing chain so i'm assuming you are talking about the accessory belts. just look for the adjusters (one at power steering pump and one around the a/c compressor) but it shouldn't be a big job.

How much damage can a timing belt cause?

My toyota camry's timing belt went out. I hear that a timing belt can cause other damage to the engine. If so what can happen and how much would it cost to fix the timing belt and or the damage it could've caused. Hundreds? Thousands? All I want is a ballpark. How much damage can a timing belt cause? It depends on the year model and engine. I say that because in later model cars, when the timing belt broke, it would literally wipe out an engine by doing extensive damage to the valves, valve guides, pistons costing thousands. The newer model cars has been designed in such a way where this won't happen, The clearances are very very close, but they wont touch if the timing belt breaks. I had a Ford Escort timing belt to break once and there was no damage.

How much damage can a timing belt cause?Check in a repair manual or call toyota and see if the valves can be hit. If not then you might get away with only a new belt. How much damage can a timing belt cause?yes it can literally cause thousands of dollars worth of damage to an engine in 3 seconds or less,it can bend valves, bust holes in pistons and warp valves as well as damage valve guides, that's one thing you don't want to happen to an engine if its a interference engine,it can cost more than the car is worth to repair one, good luck. How much damage can a timing belt cause?WHEN A TIMING BELT BREAKS THERE IS LITTLE ROOM BETWEEN THE VALVES AND PISTONS . IF A VALVE IS COMPLETLEY OPEN WHEN THE PISTON COMES UP IT CAN HIT IT CAUSING THE VALVE TO BEND AND/OR BUST THE PISTON. HOWEVER I HAVE SEEN THAT WHEN REPLACING BROKEN TIMIG BELTS THAT PROBALLY HALF THE TIME THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE . ON THE CAMRY'S TIMING BELT REMOVAL IS NESSARY FOR WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT. WHEN I DO A CAMRY TIMING BELT ON A CAMRY I ALWAYS RECOMEND THAT THE WATER PUMP, THERMOSTAT, AHD RADIATOR HOSES BE REPLACED. DEPENDING ON SHOP LABOR RATE AND PARTS MARK UP THE PRICE COULD VERY DIFERENT. NO ENGINE DAMAGE 200-500$ . ENGINE DAMAGE 1000-5000$ . THE QUALITY OF THE JOB AND THE YEAR OF THE CAR MAKES THE DIFERENCE How much damage can a timing belt cause?well lets just say the top end will be demolished .because no timing belt means piston meets valve not so good looking and you'll be in for a new head and pistons .and timing belts are not $$$$$ they are around 20 bucks or so

I have a 2000 mercury sable, it only has one belt and the air compressor locked up and as a result busted the belt. How do you know if the fan belt is broken?

My car temp guage is acting funny. I started my car to check for leaks in the coolant but notice that the fan is not turning. Is the fan of a car always supposed to turn? If it doesn't does that mean the fan belt has broken? Is the car safe to drive 2 miles into town to a garage to have it fixed or should I have it towed or should I see if my neighbor or son can help me replace it?How do you know if the fan belt is broken? The fan belt can drive other devices such as the water pump and alternator. If these are not working the chances are reduced considerably that you would make it the two miles into town. It would be wiser to have some one come out to where you are and install the belt, or have the car towed to a repair facility. How do you know if the fan belt is broken? The fan belt is not supposed to turn.... I had this happen to me, My car made a loud screeching sound going down the road, and also when i turned the ignition. Why don't you go to the car dealership, just to have them take a look at it, this way they can tell u what's wrong, And then you can get an estimate on how much it will cost? (Mine was the fan belt by the way)How do you know if the fan belt is broken?ARE YOU FOR REAL???? if not ,,here goes,, some cars have electric thermostatic operated fans and wont work till operating temp is passed .So keep hand and body out of there.

get your veh service book out and read it should tell you if it has a fan belt. check fuses if it is electrical. MOST IMPORTANT IS THERE ANY WATER IN EXPANSION TANK / RADIATOR???

check this when veh has been sitting for at least 6 hours fill up if empty. and yes you should get to town Just dont drive like a demon. Have fun happy motoring. How do you know if the fan belt is broken? Is it the fan belt or the fan motor? If it's a newer car get it towed to be on the safe side. And get it fixed. How do you know if the fan belt is broken? What kind of car/truck do you have. Some vehicles have electric fans which wont be a problem, but I suspect you have a mechanical fan connected to the water pump. DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE. You will be in more trouble than you can imagine. How do you know if the fan belt is broken? You can make it two miles. Just start with the engine is cold, and go straight to town. Don't stop anywhere, go straight to the auto shop. You should be ok with just two miles. But don't drive much farther!!

If you did break your fan belt, you will get a hot light AND your battery will eventually lose it's charge, cause that same belt runs the alternator, which keeps your battery charged. Fix this one right away. Don't wait. How do you know if the fan belt is broken?Fan does not always turn just when the car is standing still for about 2min, as there there is not enough air flow for the radiator to work, if the fan does not come on after say 5 min once the engine is warm and the temp gauge is going into the red then the fan or circuit may have a problem, i would not drive it as you could cook your engine

How will my experience in Shotokan (brown belt) help me if I want to start practicing Kyokushin karate?

I'm 14 years old and I've been practicing Shotokan karate since I was 7. I got my brown belt last year, and I was thinking of taking up Kyokushin later this year.

I don't mind starting from A-Z in Kyokushin but how will my experience in Shotokan help me in Kyokushin? How will my experience in Shotokan (brown belt) help me if I want to start practicing Kyokushin karate?don't worry about it.

kyokushin came from a combination of shotokan and goju.

your stance will be a little shorter. and the kata's a little different. you will adapt to it fairly quickly. the terminology you learned will be the same and the kata names are the okinawa names.

the basics techniques are very close there may be some minor things nothing to critical.

you should move back up to brown belt level relatively quickly, they may even evaluate you to see where you fit in. this part is up to the instructor, every instructor treats this differentlyHow will my experience in Shotokan (brown belt) help me if I want to start practicing Kyokushin karate?Yes it will, any martial art is good for studying another, but Shotokan and Kyokushin go hand in hand.

They are very close, many techniques are the same, or differ very slightly. You are also going to be used to how they do things in traditional Japanese dojos.

You already have a core (in Shotokan), so you know how to fight well. Putting what you know as your core into another art is very beneficial.

Good luck. How will my experience in Shotokan (brown belt) help me if I want to start practicing Kyokushin karate?Kyokushin actually has it root from Shotokan karate.

Gichin Funakoshi (founder of Shotokan) is a dear teacher to Mas Oyama (Founder of Kyokushin), and Oyama called Funakoshi as his true Karate teacher. So basically Oyama's basic training was in Shotokan.

Sadly though while history said that, modern day karate is tainted by numerous McDojo springing everywhere, and a lot targeted Shotokan as they were very popular.

Real Kyokushin dojo will focus a lot in their full body contact kumite (especially if you talk about brown belt), if your Shotokan base has the same type of sparring/kumite then you will thrive.

I think you will at least benefit from the kata training you got from shotokan as the katas have a lot of similarities.

In any case, I hope you join the kyokushin (and a good dojo too at that as I heard that a lot of McDojo are claiming themselves to be kyokushin too)

Osu...How will my experience in Shotokan (brown belt) help me if I want to start practicing Kyokushin karate? It will help you alot. A front kick in shotokan is the same as a front kick in Kyokushin. Same with many other techniques.

The terminology will also be the same.

Not to mention the conditioning and flexibility you already have.

JamesHow will my experience in Shotokan (brown belt) help me if I want to start practicing Kyokushin karate?Yes, having a back ground in any striking martial art will help you in another one. Most martial arts have more in common than aspects that separate them

    more stuff

Kyokoshin has a back ground in shotokan so I think they will be great compliments to each other

Most of the time, its the water pump that causes the belt to go bad on that model.

How do you change a timing belt on a 2001 Mazda Millenia?

I am looking at changing the timing belt in my Mazda. I am in the military and have access to a automotive hobby shop where I can access tools and lifts needed to do the work. I am wondering how hard it is to do this job and how long it will take. Any information would be great thanks. How do you change a timing belt on a 2001 Mazda Millenia?what motor? 2.5 is way easier than the 2.3. i have never done a 2.5, but if it is a 2.3, here are some pointers. you will have to pull the rt wheel, and splash shield. i also pull the motor mount, and the upper radiator hose, which means draining the coolant. this will give you clearance to remove the auto belt tensioners. ahh, the auto tensioners. there are 2. BUT WAIT-before pulling the tensioners/belts, MAKE SURE you loosen the bolt/nuts for the water pump pulley AND the p/s pump pulley. otherwise, you will have to get a really good strap wrench, and do a LOT of cussing. long extensions, and swivel head sockets are a big help, especially when removing the tensioners, and the plastic cover. of course, the motor will have to be supported, and around this time, you will probably notice that the motor mounts are fubar. they are liquid filled, and only last about 60k. dont get the ebay ones, they are NOT liquid filled, and the motor will sit too high. the hood will hit. ask me how i know. you will need a really good auto tensioner tool. the tensioners are spring loaded, and you have to relieve the tension to get the 2 serp belts off/on. if you try it with a box end, it will take 2 strong men and a boy, and there just aint much clearance in there. the motor will have to be tilted up and down several times to get at stuff. you will need a really good impact to get the bolt on the harmonic balancer. my impact is 600 ft/lbs rev torque, and it barely breaks it loose the first time. if your motor has been in the rust belt, i would first try to pull the harmonic balancer, because it will be ON there. if you cannot pull the balancer, you cannot remove the covers, and you cannot get to the timing belt. that is critical. even if it has not been in the rust belt, it is hard to remove. you may want to get a slide hammer kit to pull it off. the covers are held on with 6mm bolts, and you will need long extensions and a swivel socket to get at them, or really tiny hands and double jointed arms. you should also change out the tensioner, water pump, and pulleys. be prepared with cam/crank seals, too. however, if you need to change cam seals, that is a HUGE job. the whole intake has to come off.

some of this info also applies to the 2.5.

now the good news. mazda motors are non interference. the belt is nitrile, and mazda recommends changing it at 105k. i have seen/pulled belts at over 180k that look new. the water pumps seem to last a very long time, and the seals seem to be very good. unless you have a leak, or a bad water pump, i would let it go to 200k. if it breaks, all it will do is leave you stranded, there will not be any motor damage. How do you change a timing belt on a 2001 Mazda Millenia? It depends on what is in the way... Since it's a transverse or %26quot;sideways%26quot; mounted engine, it could be pretty difficult. It's probably going to involve taking off some bolts or nuts that are hard to get to without removing other parts, but in the case of a timing belt, you don't usually have a choice. You just have to change it. You might be able to get away with just removing wheel well covers and the passenger side front wheel (depending on which side the timing belt is on). If you have any problems, get a factory service manual for that year and model from your local mazda/ford dealer. If you don't have access to one of these usually expensive manuals, go with second best and get a Haynes or Chilton manual for this car usually available at any auto parts store... Good luck.
