How do i fix a 2000 mercury sable broken belt?

I have a 2000 mercury sable, it only has one belt and the air compressor locked up and as a result busted the belt. I already know if i don't replace the air compressor the belt will bust again, but right now i don't have enough money to buy the part let alone the labor, is there anyway i can buy a smaller belt and by pass the compressor. I have seen it done before but with cars that have 2 belts, mine only has one. Thanks for your inputHow do i fix a 2000 mercury sable broken belt?it depends on if the clutch it locked up ot the compressor. if its just the compressor locked up unplug the copressor clutch wires it will keep it from kicking in. then your belt will be ok. if its your clutch it will have to be replaced. i doubt taking it off will help due to clearance problems. but try unplugging the wires im sure that will fix your problem
