How do you properly tighten the accessory belt on a Toyota Echo?

The Echo doesn't have a belt tensioner, you simply pivot the alternator to tighten the belt.

Any tips on getting it properly tightened? I replaced it yesterday and its slipping more than the belt I just replaced was.

It only slips if the A/C is on, I'm partially wondering if the compressor needs to be recharged. How do you properly tighten the accessory belt on a Toyota Echo?they are usually adjusted as a large flat screw driver is used as leverage.

It should not flex by hand force, charging the compressor will not help.

Some shops have special measuring tools for tightness this is not required. However do no over tighten to wear out aux bearing.
