How to check for a blown head gasket in a 1994 Honda Civic?

My 1994 Honda Civic is overheating and I need to check for a blown head gasket. How do i do this? There is no water in the oil. We have replaced the thermostat and the timing belt recently. How to check for a blown head gasket in a 1994 Honda Civic?Fill the cooling system with clean water and start the engine with the cap off.Leave it ticking over and observe the filler neck.If you see large air bubbles in the water then it a tell tail sign that compression is entering the cooling system? If the gasket is blown, then eventually the engine will start to throw the water out of the filler neck big time.Hope this helps
