How much would it cost to replace a timing belt?

The timing belt broke in my 95 Monte Carlo and my friend said it would take about 8 hours of work. How much would a company charge for labor to fix it? If you can please give me an estimate it would be much appreciated. How much would it cost to replace a timing belt?8 hours to fix, yeah right, you've gotta be kidding me, your being ripped off, my timing belt was replaced at a dealership for 250 dollars!!

your getting ripped off, pick up a coupon book they keep in stores, most of them will have a flat rate for timing belts, most in my are charge 200 to 300, anything above 300 is a rip offHow much would it cost to replace a timing belt?Timing belts are the expensive maintenance out of just about everything that has to be regularly done. A good mechanic will charge about $95-100 per hour, so you are looking about $800 if it is only 8 hours.

However, in my experience, timing belt replacements are more like 12-15 hours and your car is not the exception. Be prepared to pay up to $1,500. Call local mechanics and negotiate the price. How much would it cost to replace a timing belt?do you have a 3.1L, 3.4L, or a 3.8L engine? you didn't state which engine your car has. the 3.4L is the only engine that uses a timing belt in that car. if this is your engine size, and only the belt broke and no other damage was done(like bent valves), the labor should be around 5 hrs. and the belt would cost around $90(dealer part, probably cheaper at local parts store).
