When should replace a Ford Focus cam belt and how much should you pay (Parts and Labour)?

I have a '01 Petrol Ford Focus which I've done about 25,000miles %26amp; in total it has done about 90,000. I don't know if the cam belt has ever been replaced. When shuld you do it and how much should pay? When should replace a Ford Focus cam belt and how much should you pay (Parts and Labour)? In the states we call it a %26quot;timing belt.%26quot; Its usually done at about 100,000 miles but you know what; do it at 90 if you want.

As far as how much; the cost of replacing one has nothing to do with the belt, it has to do with the labor. The belt costs you about 25 bucks.

How much they have to take apart to get to it is what will determine the labor; it depends where it is on the engine. I had an 86 Honda Civic where it cost $250 because it was easy to get at. Then I had a 79 Pontiac where it cost $1100 because they had to take apart the whole engine.

Sometimes the timing belt also drives the water pump so its a good idea to have them put a new water pump in if it does. This way you don't have to do the timing all over again just because the old pump blows and they have to take the belt off to replace it.When should replace a Ford Focus cam belt and how much should you pay (Parts and Labour)?I would always err on the side of caution and replace sooner than later. remember this little belt is turning thousands of times each day. I would also advise you phone around for a good independent and ask them to change the idler too. get a %26quot;pack%26quot; from a Ford dealer and dont try and save a few quid. If it ever goes, the damage is done when you try and restart the car...which is of course what everyone doesWhen should replace a Ford Focus cam belt and how much should you pay (Parts and Labour)?Zetec/Zetec-E engines: renew every 5 years/80K miles
